Claude Certified Developer: Foundations

About this book

This book prepares you to pass the Claude Certified Developer — Foundations exam (CCDV-F) on your first attempt. It follows Anthropic's official Exam Guide v1.0 (effective July 2026) domain by domain, in the same weightings the exam uses. It is Book 2 of a four-book series, one per Claude certification.

Who it is for. Software and AI engineers who build, integrate, and ship Claude-powered apps, agents, and workflows. The official guide recommends 1 to 5 years of software engineering, at least 6 months hands-on with Claude or a comparable LLM, Python and/or TypeScript, and fluency with REST APIs and CLIs. None of this is a formal prerequisite. How to use it.

Read Chapter 1 to understand the format, scoring, and eligibility rules.

Work through Chapters 2 to 9, one per official domain. Spend time in proportion to the weight shown in each heading: Applications and Integration alone is a third of the exam. Each chapter has core concepts, worked examples with code, scenario drills, common traps, and "Check yourself" questions.

Build the capstone project in Appendix D alongside the chapters. The official guide's own advice is to ship at least one Claude app that uses the API, one or more tools, prompt and context engineering, and basic security and evaluation. Sit Practice exam 1 (Chapter 10) under timed conditions (53 questions, 120 minutes), review every rationale, then drill your weakest domains in the Chapter 12 drill bank. Work the case studies in Appendix E, then sit Practice exam 2 (Chapter 11).

In the final week, drill the flashcards in Appendix G and reread every "Common traps" list. Appendix F has TypeScript versions of the core code patterns.

A note on accuracy. The Claude platform changes monthly. Exam facts below were checked against official Anthropic and Pearson VUE pages on 29 October 2026. Technical details (model names, prices, parameters) reflect Anthropic's API documentation at the same date; always confirm against the live docs before exam day. This book is independent study material and is not endorsed by Anthropic. Exam items are confidential under the candidate NDA, so nothing here is drawn from the live item bank.
